Robson, Alexander

Alexander Robson (1891-1916)

Born Beverley, 1891. Known as Alec. Son of John William Robson (1866-1943) and Rose Grant (1868-1947), of 57, East Gate, Beverley, Yorkshire. Son of a plumber, he had two brothers and three sisters. He worked as a Whitesmith.

Enlisted at Beverley. Formerly 3218, Yorkshire Regiment. Transferred to the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, 10th Bn. Killed in action at the Somme, on 25/09/1916, aged 26.

Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

On gravestone for parents John and Rose Robson, it says “He died fighting for God and Liberty such a death to immortality to the Glorious memory of Alec the beloved son of John & Rose Robson killed in action on the Somme Sept 26 1916 aged 26”
