Born Hull 1886. Son of the late Edwin and Clare McDonald.He served as “RYAN” His true name was McDONALD. Served in the Merchant Navy. Drownedon 15/03/1919, aged 33, when the steam Trawler “Durban”, hit a mine. All hands lost. He left a widow, at this CWGC address.
Built for Humber Steam Fishing & Ice Co., Hull (H378). In December 1914 vessel Rqd by the Royal Navy as an auxiliary vessel No FY 1209. In October 1915 returned to owners. In 1917 vessel Rqd by Royal Navy as a fishing trawler (Fishery Reserve). In 1919 vessel returned to owners. On 15/03/1919 the Hull trawler DURBAN (H378) posted missing:- Lost all hands (possibly mined) in the North Sea.CREW LOST ON DURBAN (H378), missing, presumed to have struck mine, 15th March, 1919.
