BORN HULL 1895. SON OF RICHARD SAMPSON (1862-1941) & MARY LAVENDER (1862-1923), OF 25 CHESTNUT AVENUE, QUEENS ROAD, HULL (1911 CENSUS). SON OF A LAMP LIGHTER. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS.
EMPLOYED AS AN APPRENTICE ELECTRICIAN. WORKED FOR THE NEEDLER’S SWEET FACTORY, AT BOURNEMOUTH STREET, HULL.
ENLISTED HULL. SERVED WITH THE 4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 19/04/1918, AGED 23. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS SISTER, ETHEL PINNOCK, AT 90, WHARNCLIFFE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
REMEMBERED ON THE NEEDLER’S WW1 MEMORIAL PLAQUE.
