BORN KNOTTINGLEY, YORKSHIRE, 1902. ONLY SON OF JAMES WILLIAM SENIOR & BLANCHE BAGELEY. SERVED AS A NAVAL CADET. LOST ON THE HULL STEAMSHIP “MONTEBELLO”, ON 21/06/1918, AGED 16

LISTED ON THE WILSON LINE WW1 ROLL OF HONOUR. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 30TH JULY 1918.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TOWER HILL NAVAL MEMORIAL, LONDON AND THE KNOTTINGLEY WW1 MEMORIAL, WHICH CONTAINS 202 NAMES.

SS Montebello, built by Earle’s Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Ltd., Hull in 1911 and owned at the time of her loss by Ellerman’s Wilson Line, Ltd., Hull, was a British steamer of 4324 tons. On June 21st, 1918, Montebello, on a voyage from London to Hampton Roads, was sunk by the German submarine U-100 (Degenhart von Loë), 320 miles W1/2N from Ushant (Ouessant). 41 persons were lost, included the ship’s Master.
