BORN HULL 1894. SON OF WILLIAM SHANN & MARIA LEAF (1870-1941), OF 19 GRIMSBY LANE, QUEEN STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. WORKED AS A LABOURER.

ENLISTED HULL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 25012, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE CAMBRIDGE REGIMENT. DIED OF TUBERCULOSIS, AT HOME, ON 24/01/1917, AGED 23. BURIED HEDON CEMETERY, HULL.

HE LEFT A FIANCEE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WENT TO HIS FATHER WILLIAM. HIS PENSION WENT TO HIS MOTHER, MARIA AT 19 GRIMSBY LANE, QUEEN STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). WHEN HIS MOTHER DIED, HIS FATHER MOVED TO A FARM ON HULL ROAD, WITHERNSEA.
HIS BROTHER, JOHN WILLIAM SHANN (1892-1958), SERVED IN MESOPOTAMIA, DURING WW1.
