BORN HULL 15/11/1891. SON OF KATE MANN (1854-1903) & JAMES ROBERT SHARP (1854-1932), OF 32, SYKES STREET, HULL. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS. WORKED FOR HIS FATHER AS A FRENCH POLISHER.
HE MARRIED IN OCTOBER 1914. HUSBAND ADA ANN BIRCH (1889-1952), OF 2, CRYSTAL AVENUE, MASSEY STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THEY HAD A SON ALBERT AND DAUGHTER, IVY.
HE ENLISTED JUNE 1916. HIS BROTHER AND TWO BROTHERS IN LAW HAD JOINED EARLIER. HE WAS DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 8 INCHES TALL, 124 LBS WEIGHT, 35-38 INCH CHEST, “GOOD” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. HE SERVED ITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRAINED AT WITHERNSEA. WOUNDED IN FRANCE ON 08/01/1917. CHARLES HAD BEEN IN FRANCE FOR FOUR MONTHS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 31ST MAY 1917 WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.
HE IS ALSO COMMEMORATED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL, AT ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, NEWINGTON, HULL.
HIS TWO BROTHER IN LAWS SERVED IN THE ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS, IN FRANCE.
