BORN MARGATE, KENT 1881. SON OF THOMAS AND SARAH ANN SHAXTED, OF CHALK HOLE FARM, RAMSGATE, KENT. ONE OF 15 CHILDREN. A FORMER TRADE WORKER AT RAMSGATE HARBOUR. HE MARRIED EMILY LOUISA MARSH (1879-1969) AT THANET, KENT, IN 1908. HIS WIFE EMILY LIVED AT 2 DALES TERRACE, PELHAM STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS), NOW DEMOLISHED). THEY HAD TWO DAUGHTERS, MINNIE (1910-1918) AND MAISEY (1913-1988)
HE ENLISTED AT CANTERBURY, KENT. SERVED AS LANCE CORPORAL, WITH THE 8TH EAST KENT (BUFFS) REGIMENT. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, AT LOOS, ON 26/09/1915, AGED 35. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE LOOS MEMORIAL. HE WAS REPORTED MISSING IN THE THANET ADVERTISER, ON 13/11/1915.
NOTE, FIVE MEN CALLED SHAXTED DIED IN WW1. THEY WERE ALL FROM KENT. FOUR SERVED WITH THE BUFFS AND ALL FOUR DIED IN 1915. IT IS NOT KNOWN IF THEY WERE RELATED TO THIS MAN?
