BORN THORNTON CURTIS, LINCS 1885. SON OF EDWARD SHEARSMITH (1856-1952) AND MARY ANN SIMONS (1857-1903).
HE MARRIED AT SCULCOATES, HULL, IN JULY 1908. HIS WIFE ELIZABETH FRANCES ATKINSON, AND FOUR CHILDREN (ALFRED, HARRY, IRENE MARY AND ROBERT), LIVED AT 7, OAKLAND VILLAS, REYNOLDSON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS), AND ALSO 10 BRENTWOOD VILLAS, REYNOLDSON STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). HE WAS A BRICKLAYER AND HULL & BARNSLEY RAILWAY WORKER.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED IN THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WOUNDED BY A SHELL EXPLOSION. DIED OF WOUNDS ON 05/12/1916, AGED 31. BURIED AT MESNIL COMMUNAL CEMETERY, SOMME, FRANCE.
HIS ARMY WEEFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ELIZABETH FRANCES SHEARSMITH. SHE RECEIVED AS WEEKLY WAR PENSION OF 28 SHILLING & 9 PENCE.
