Shelton, Norman

Born Urmston, Lancashire, 27 Dec 1897. Eldest son of Jane Ann Shelton and Percy James Shelton, of 113, De Grey Street, Hull (War Pension address). He had on brother, Eric. His father was a Manager’s Secretary for a coal colliery company.

Resided at 98 Boundaries Road, Balham SW London. described as 5 foot, 10 inches tall, 35-38 inch chest, 9 stone 13 lbs weight, poor vision. fair physique, Church of England religion.

He enlisted in Putney, on 7/4/1915. Formerly 3002, 3Rd City Of London Yeomanry. Served in the23rd (County of London) Battalion. Posted to France, on 22/9/1916. Wounded by gunshot to the arm and right leg, on 8/6/1917. Died of wounds, on 11/06/1917 at No: 17 CCS. He is buried in Belgium. He had served in the army for 2 years and 66 days.

His “meagre” effects were returned to his father Percy James who wrote to the authorities how badly they were preserved and took over 4 months to deliver.
