BORN PETERSHAM, SYDNEY, 1894. ONLY SON OF JOHN AND MARGARET SHERIDAN, FROM HULL. HIS FATHER WAS BORN IN HULL, ON 16/06/1879, AND HAD SERVED SEVEN YEARS IN NAVY, EIGHT YEARS IN ARMY. RE-ENLISTED & WAS MISSING FOR 11 MONTHS. HE WENT THROUGH THE BOER WAR WITHOUT A SCRATCH. EMIGRATED TO AUSTRALIA. ARRIVED SYDNEY, NSW, ON 21/06/1907. LIVED AT ‘ROSYLN’, RAMSEY ROAD, HABERFIELD, SYDNEY. HIS SON WAS A CABLE CLERK. HE HAD PREVIOUSLY SERVED WITH THE 31ST AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY FOR 18 MONTHS, BUT HAD BEEN DISCHARGED DUE TO HIS CABLE DUTIES. HE RE-ENLISTED IN SYDNEY, ON 13/05/1915, AGED 20 YEARS AND 10 MONTHS. HIS ARMY MEDICAL RECORDS DESCRIBE HIM, AS, 5 FOOT 7 INCHES TALL, 135 LBS WEIGHT, 32.5 INCH CHEST, BROWN EYES (GOOD VISION) AND BROWN HAIR. HE SERVED WITH THE 4TH AUSTRALIAN IMPERIAL FORCE. ARRIVED SUEZ ON 30/11/1915. HE RECEIVED GUNSHOTS WOUNDS TO THE HEAD, SIDE, BACK AND LEGS AT GALLIPOLI ON 7/08/1915. EVACUATED. HE DIED OF WOUNDS AT NO:17 GENERAL HOSPITAL, ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT, ON 13/08/1915. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 17TH MARCH 1916. *. THE NEWS OF HIS DEATH IN AUSTRALIA WAS DELAYED DUE TO HIS SISTER’S WEAK HEALTH.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, JOHN, AT ‘ALLAMBI’, LENORE STREET, FIVE DOCK, NEW SOUTH WALES.
