BORN BUBWITH, DRIFFIELD YORKSHIRE 1895. SON OF THE LATE ANNIE SHERWOOD (1859-1895) AND RICHARD SHERWOOD (1859-1910), OF 6 ADELPHI STREET, DRIFFIELD AND 6 MINNIE’S GROVE, MAYFIELD STREET, HULL. SON OF A POLICEMAN. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. NEPHEW OF WILLIAM ROBERT BOOTH AND CHARLOTTE BOOTH OF 6 ADELPHI STREET, DRIFFIED, WHERE HE LIVED WHEN HIS PARENTS DIED (1911 CENSUS).
WORKED AS AN APPRENTICE COACH PAINTER BEFORE THE WAR. RESIDED AT 12 ADA’S TERRACE, ST PAUL’S STREET, HULL, WITH HIS AUNTIE, JANE SHERWOOD AND BROTHER RICHARD .
HE ENLISTED IN DRIFFIELD. SERVED WITH THE 9TH QUEENS LANCERS, IN THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. KILLED IN ACTION ON 29/09/1914, AGED 18. HE IS PHOTOGRAPHED WITH HIS TWO BROTHERS WHO ALSO SERVED.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 10TH DECEMBER 1914. * ALSO IN THE HULL TIMES, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, ON 07/11/1914.
HIS BROTHER, PTE, RICHARD SHERWOOD, 10TH WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED AT ARRAS, ON 23/04/1917, AGED 28.
