BORN GRIMSBY 08/02/1895. SON OF SAMUEL SHERWOOD, AT 92 GRIMSBY ROAD, GRIMSBY. HE LIVED AT 28 NEWTON STREET, HULL. HE DIED ON THE HULL TRAWLER. ‘ERIN’, ON 19/10/1915, AGED 20. HE WAS AN APPRENTICE WITH MESSRS, BEECHING, AND A WELL KNOWN FIGURE IN HULL’S FISHING CIRCLES. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH ON 08/11/1915, AND AGAIN, ON THE 19/10/1916 *
HMT Erin II, built by Cook, Welton & Gemmell, Beverley in 1903 and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British navy trawler of 181 tons.
On October 19th, 1915, HMT Erin II was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-5 (Herbert Pustkuchen), off the Nab lightvessel. 7 persons were lost.
