BORN HULL 1883. ATTACHED TO 138TH RAMC. SECOND SON OF HENRY & EMILY SHORES, OF 43 LOUIS STREET AND 199 PARK AVENUE, HULL.
HIS WIFE MARY ELIZABETH SHORES AND THEIR TWO CHILDREN LIVED AT 155 BLENHEIM STREET, HULL AND LATER MOVED TO DONCASTER.
BEFORE ENLISTING HE WORKED FOR THE POST OFFICE AND CORPORATION TELEPHONE EXCHANGE. HE JOINED AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR AGED 34 AND SERVED IN FRANCE FOR TWO YEARS AS AN AMBULANCE DRIVER. A LETTER FROM A FRIEND TO HIS WIFE RECALLS HE “WAS A GENUINE MAN” WHO DID HUMANE WORK “ZEALOUSLY AND UNSELFISHLY.” HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 13TH AUGUST 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
