BORN HULL 16/05/1888. SON OF JOHN WITHERNWICK SIDDLE (1848-1898) AND ANNIE COLEMAN SUDDABY (1852-1919), OF SLEIGHT COTTAGE, WITHERNSEA. ONE OF NINE CHILDREN. HE MARRIED HILDA ANN WALKER (1890-1936), AT HULL, ON 07/12/1914. HIS WIFE HILDA AND TWO SONS, LIVED AT 25 WILLIAM STREET, HULL, (CWGC ADDRESS).
HE WAS A REGULAR SOLDIER. HE ENLISTED AT THE AGE OF 15, ON 01/06/1903. JOINED AS A BANDSMAN/MUSICIAN. EX SHROPSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. HE DESERTED ON 06/12/1909, AND SURRENDERED ON 31/05/1910. GAINED KING’S PARDON AND REJOINED ARMY, ON 2/06/1910. SERVED IN INDIA AT START OF THE WAR. POSTED TO FRANCE ON 20/11/1914. WOUNDED BY GUN SHOT, IN LEFT ARM, MAY 1915. RETURNED TO ENGLAND IN JUNE 1915. TRANSFERRED TO THE THE KING’S LIVERPOOL REGIMENT, ON 24/02/1917. SERVED IN EGYPT FROM 31/01/1918 TO FEB 1919. SUFFERED FROM BRONCHITIS AND LOST HIS VOICE, WHICH STARTED IN 1917. DIED OF TUBERCULOSIS OF THE LUNGS, AT HULL ROYAL INFIRMARY, ON 22/11/1919, AGED 31. BURIED AT HULL WESTERN CEMETERY. HIS SON ALFRED JONAS SIDDLE WAS BORN ON 14/05/1920.
HIS OLDER BROTHER, ENGINEMAN, JOHN WILLIAM SIDDLE, DSM, DIED AT SEA, ON THE TRAWLER ‘ARCHILLES’ ON 26/06/1918, AGED 42. LISTED ON THE CHATHAM AND HULL’S TRINITY HOUSE NAVAL MEMORIAL. THEIR WIDOWED MOTHER, DIED SOON AFTER IN 1919.
