BORN SOUTH SHIELDS, 1894. ELDEST SON OF DAVID & MARY ANN ELIZABETH SIMPSON, OF 64 HADDON STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS ADDRESS). HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. TRANSFERRED TO THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 29/07/1917, AGED 23. DURING A SUCCESSFUL, NIGHT, TRENCH RAID, NORTH OF ROEUX (SEVEN MILITARY MEDALS WERE AWARDED).

HIS BROTHER, STANLEY SIMPSON, WHO WAS TOO YOUNG TO SERVE, WAS GIVEN A GALLANTRY AWARD, ON 09/07/1941, AGED 40, FOR PUTTING OUT FIRES, DURING THE HULL BLITZ.
