Smart, Daniel

Born Penrhiwceiber, Glamorgan, Wales, 1891. Son of Frederick Smart (1869-1941) and Martha Mary Bryant (1872-1945), of Castle Street, Barry Docks, Glamorgan.

At the age of 14 he was remanded for stealing oars and a boat in Barry Harbour. He resided at Church Road, Cadoxton, Barry and prior to the war was a Licensed boatman and Pilot on Barry docks. Descibed as 5 foot, 11 inches tall, 40-43 inch chest, grey eyes, brown hair

Married at Hull on 24 Nov 1913. Husband of Eliza De Marion Dent, at 10, Brompton Terrace, Park Road, Hull (War Pension address). His wife was born in Hull Hull. They had two children. His daughter, Emily was born in Hull in 1917.

He enlisted at Cardiff on 15/01/1915. Posted to France, on 19/10/1917. Served as a Corporal in the 4th and 17th Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Wounded on 06/05/1918 and returned to England. Discharged on 18/07/1918. Died of wounds received in France, on 20/12/1918, aged 27, at Barry Accident Hospital. He is buried at BARRY (MERTHYR DYFAN) BURIAL GROUND
