Smelt, John William

Born Beverley 1893. Son of Harry and Ann Eliza Smelt. Enlisted at Hull, on 25 April 1911. Served as Gunner, 938, 1st East Riding, RGA. Discharged on 9 May 1916, after 4 years & 15 days army service. He was an Engine Cleaner for the North Eastern Railway, living at 1, Spring Gardens, Hawthorne Avenue, Hull (Army address) and 77, South Parade, Hull (1921 Census). He married Sarah Ann Smelt and had five children.  Died at Hull, on 20 Jan 1925, aged 32.
