Born Waterford, Ireland, 1897. Eldest Son of Fred and Kate Smith, at 18, Fern Grove, Northumberland Avenue, Hull. he had three brothers and one sister. Worked as a Fitter’s apprentice.
He enlisted at Hull. Formerly H/15120, 10Th Hussars. Posted 29/09/1915. Transferred to the 2nd Hampshire Regiment. Killed in action, on 12/10/1916, aged 19. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France. His army effects were left to his mother, Kate.
His elder brother, Walter Smith, 52237, served with the West Yorks regiment. Albert John Pretoria Smith was a Japanese POW in WW2.
