BORN HULL 16/06/1889. SON OF GEORGE HENRY & AGNES MARY SMITH AT 12, WESTBOURNE AVENUE, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS) ONE OF THREE SONS. HE WAS EDUCATED AT HYMERS. WORKED AS A ‘BLACK AND WHITE’ ARTIST PRIOR TO THE WAR. HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 12/08/1914. EX 6086 16TH CORP OF LANCERS. DESCRIBED AS 6 FOOT 1 INCH TALL, 144 LBS WEIGHT, 39 INCH CHEST, GREEN EYES, AND FAIR HAIR. COMMISSIONED ON 07/01/1915. TRANSFERRED TO THE 15TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. PROMOTED CAPTAIN. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 24/01/1916, AGED 26. HE LEFT £187 IN HIS WILL TO MISS FLORENCE LE JEUNE.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE HYMERS COLLEGE MEMORIAL.
