BORN HULL 1895. SON OF THOMAS SNELL (1869-1944) & MARY ANN SPENCER (1870-1934), OF 6 LEES COURT, GREAT PASSAGE STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS); 1, GLOUCESTER PLACE, ADELAIDE STREET, HULL AND 11, CAVILL TERRACE, BEAN STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESSES). SON OF A DOCK LABOURER. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS.
THOMAS SNELL WAS A NEWS BOY, AT ANNE STREET, HULL. HE NEARLY DROWNED IN THE HUMBER, ON 01/09/1908. HIS COUSIN, ALBERT SPENCER, DIED TRYING TO SAVE HIM IN ALBERT DOCK.
HE ENLSISTED IN HULL. HIS ARMY RECORD ADDRESS WAS 14, UPPER UNION STREET, HULL. SERVED WITHTHE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 08/11/1916, AGED 21. COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, THOMAS. HIS MOTHER, MARY ANN RECEIVED HIS WAR PENSION.
HIS BROTHER WALTER SNELL. 4TH EYR WAS KILLED IN 1915. THE BROTHERS ARE PHOTOGRAPHED IN THE HDM, 01/12/1916. *
