BORN DURHAM, 1881. SON OF WILLIAM (1848-1913) & CHARLOTTE SNOWDEN (1849-1912), OF 4 BURTON ROAD, HORNSEA. HE HAD BEEN A MEMBER OF THE HORNSEA PARISH CHOIR. HE WAS BRANCH CASHIER OF THE HULL SAVINGS BANK AND LIVED AT 182 PARK AVENUE, HULL. MEMBER OF THE HORNSEA PARISH CHOIR.
HE ENLISTED AT HULL SEPT 1914. JOINED THE 10TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (HULL COMMERCIALS). SERVED IN EGYPT IN LATE 1915. TRANSFERRED TO FRANCE, ON 08/03/1916. WAS GASSED AT THE SOMME. COMMISSIONED AS SECOND LIEUTENANT, 4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, IN JULY 1917. KILLED BY SHELL SHRAPNEL, DURING THE THIRD BATTLE OF YPRES, ON 02/10/1917, AGED 36. HE WAS HIGHLY REGARDED BY HIS FELLOW OFFICERS AND MEN.
HIS DEATH IS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 12/10/1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HE IS LISTED AS RALPH SNOWDON IN CWGC RECORDS. BURIED AT WANCOURT BRITISH CEMETERY, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “BE THOU FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH AND I WILL GIVE THEE A CROWN OF LIFE”
