BORN GREAT YARMOUTH 1889. SON OF JOHN WILLIAM (1863-1929) & ALICE HANNAH SOWTER (1860-1951). A MARINE ENGINEER. MARRIED AT HULL, IN 1913. HIS WIFE ELSIE M. HARRISON (1893-1968) & SON HEZEKIAH, LIVED AT 7, SALISBURY AVENUE, SELBY STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HE SERVED AS CHIEF ENGINEER, ON THE HULL TRAWLER ‘CELIA’. PRESUMED DROWNED 08/01/1915, AGED 26. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 15/01/1917.
On January 8th, 1915, the British trawler CELIA went missing in the North Sea. She was not heard of ever since and was probably sunk by enemy action. 9 crew lost their lives.
