BORN HULL 1885. SON OF SAMUEL SPENCER & THE LATE ALICE ROYAL (1862-1907), OF HULL. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. EMPLOYED AS A BRICKLAYER.

HE MARRIED SUSAN ANN WILLIAMSON, AT HULL, ON 12TH JUNE 1904, AGED 20. THEY LIVED AT 3, LIZZIE’S TERRACE, GILLETT STREET, HULL. (1911 CENSUS). THEN MOVED TO 78, CLIFTON STREET, CARBROOK, SHEFFIELD (WAR PENSION & ARMY ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN ATTERCLIFFE, SHEFFIELD, ON 10/07/1915, AGED 30. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 21/06/1916. JOINED THE 12TH KINGS ROYAL RIFLE CORPS, ON 07/07/1916, IN THE FIELD. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 08/08/1916, AGED 31. HE HAD BEEN IN THE ARMY LITTLE OVER A YEAR.

HE IS BURIED AT ESSEX FARM CEMETERY, BELGIUM.
HE LEFT HIS WIDOW, SUSAN, BROTHERS, SAM AND THOMAS, AND SISTERS, SARAH ELLEN, FLORENCE AND ALICE.

HIS BROTHER, TRIMMER, GEORGE HERBERT SPENCER, WAS LOST ON THE HMT “COLUMBIA”, 01/05/1915, AGED 23.
