ELDEST SON OF ALFRED RICHARD SPIRES (1853-1918) & MARGARET SPIRES, OF 7, ASH GROVE, ABBEY STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 21, PENNINGTON STREET, HULL (PENSION LEDGER ADDRESS). HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND A SISTER.
HE JOINED RECKITTS 0N 26/04/1907. WORKED AS A FIREMAN IN THE BRASSO FACTORY STORES.
A REGULAR SOLDIER WITH THE 1ST COLDSTREAM GUARDS WHEN WAR BEGAN. HE SERVED WITH THE EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. POST MISSING. ASSUMED KILLED ON 22/12/1914, AGED 22. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS PARENTS.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE DANSOM LANE MEMORIAL & ST MARKS STREET ROLL OF HONOUR, HULL. ALSO RECORDED IN THE DE RUVIGNY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 2.
HIS BROTHER, WALTER J. SPIRES SERVED AS GUARDSMAN, 10322, COLDSTREAM GUARDS. DISCHARGED ON 17/03/ 1919. HE LIVED AT 238, GOODWIN STREET, HULL.
