BORN HULL 1887. SON OF ARTHUR SPOONER (1853-1939) & MARY ANN BUTTERS (1855-1936), OF 17 FLINTON STREET, HESSLE ROAD HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND SIX SISTERS.
BEFORE THE WAR, HE WORKED AS A DOCK LABOURER (1911 CENSUS) AND WAS EMPLOYED WITH HIS BROTHER, BY THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY COMPANY.
HIS ADDRESS WAS 13, LIME TERRACE, CROWLE STREET, HULL.
GEORGE ENLISTED IN THE 16TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 03/04/1917, AGED 29. HIS BROTHER ARTHUR LEWIS SPOONER, SERVED IN THE SAME REGIMENT AND WAS ALSO KILLED IN ACTION, ON 16/04/1918, AGED 40.
GEORGE’S DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 27TH APRIL 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.
HE IS BURIED AT SAVY BRITISH CEMETERY, AISNE, FRANCE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, ARTHUR SPOONER.
