BORN HULL 12/10/1896. SON OF HARRY JOHN SPRUIT (1866-1955) & MARTHA ANN BAIMBRIDGE (1869-1944), OF 24 BOURNEMOUTH STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 206 GILMORE AVENUE, TORONTO, CANADA (CWGC ADDRESS). HIS FATHER HAD SERVED IN THE VOLUNTEER RIFLES FOR 7 YEARS AND RESIDED AT LIVERPOOL IN 1907.

SON OF A BRICKLAYER. BROTHER TO JOHN WILLIAM, JOSEPH, ALBERT, HERBERT, FLORENCE, MARGARET, AMY AND BEATRICE. HE WORKED A BOX MAKER (1911 CENSUS).

THE FAMILY MOVED TO CANADA IN 1912. AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR , HE RESIDED IN CANADA.

HE RETURNED TO ENGLAND AND ENLISTED SEAFORTHS, LANCASHIRE. SERVED IN THE 11TH KING’S LIVERPOOL REGIMENT. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 19/05/1915. WOUNDED  AT YPRES. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 11/09/1915, AGED 19 AT NO: CASUALTY CLEARING STATION.

HE IS BURIED AT LIJSSENTHOEK MILITARY CEMETERY, WEST-VLAANDEREN, BELGIUM. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO FATHER, HARRY. HIS NAME IS CARVED WITH AMOS SPRUIT ON THE STONE PILLARS OF ST MARYS CHURCH MEMORIAL, SCULCOATED LANE, HULL.

HIS FATHER ENLISTED ON 12/01/1915, AGED 42 AND SERVED AS A CAMP GUARD FOR THE 5TH CANADIAN ARTILLERY. MRS SPRUIT HAD SERVING ONE BROTHER IN LAW (WOUNDED), FIVE NEPHEWS (ONE WOUNDED), SEVEN COUSINS (ONE KILLED). THE SON IN LAW, DUKE IBBITSON, HAS TWO BROTHERS WOUNDED, A SISTER NURSING AND A BROTHER IN LAW SERVING. THE PATRIOTIC FAMILY WERE PHOTOGRAPHED IN THE TORONTO TELEGRAM, NOVEMBER 1916.
