BORN HULL 1897. HULL PAL. ONLY SON OF GEORGE MARTIN & LOUISA. STEAD, OF 54, ARTHUR STREET, HULL, 11 WELLS STREET, NEWINGTON AND 97 PLANE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDESS). HE WAS UNMARRIED. LIVED AT HOME WITH HIS THREE SISTERS ELSIE, HILDA AND BEATRICE. AND WORKED AS A CLERK.
HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 25/11/1914, JOINING THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE (HULL PALS). SERVED IN EGYPT FROM 15/12/1915. ARRIVED FRANCE 8/03/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 1ST EYR ON 10/7/1916.KILLED IN ACTION 16/09/1916, AGED 19.
HIS BODY WAS NOT RECOVERED AND HE IS COMMEMORATED AT THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING, HIS FATHER REQUESTED HIS PERSONAL EFFECTS BUT THERE WERE NONE.
