BORN HULL 1897. SON OF WILLIAM STEELEY & MARY ANN (WILSON), OF 3 ELEANORS TERRACE, OXFORD STREET, HULL. BEFORE THE WAR, HE WORKED AS A LABOURER, AT WRAY & SANDERSON, OIL MILLS, HULL. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE HAD BEEN IN FRANCE FOR ONLY SEVEN WEEKS, BEFORE HE WAS WOUNDED. HE DIED OF SHELL SHOCK, ON 14/08/1916, AGED 19. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 29TH AUGUST 1916 WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HE IS BURIED AT HEILLY STATION CEMETERY, MERICOURT-L’ABBE, SOMME, FRANCE.
HIS FATHER SERVED IN THE WAR ON MINESWEEPERS.
