BORN SOUTHCOATES, HULL, 1897. THIRD SON OF WILLIAM & ALICE STOKES, OF 4, SABINA AVENUE, BALFOUR STREET, HULL & 1, SUNNYHILL, POTTERILL LANE, SUTTON ON HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESSES). SON OF A SHIP YARD DRILLER. HE HAD TWO OLDER BROTHERS AND SEVEN SISTERS.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 8/12/1914. SERVED WITH THE 1ST COLDSTREAM GUARDS, KILLED IN ACTION, ON 22/12/1914, AGED 17. BURIED IN FRANCE.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, WILLIAM.

HIS BROTHER JOHN HENRY STOKES, FOUGHT FOR CANADIANS & WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON  6TH JUNE 1916 (HULL DAILY MAIL ADDRESS 16/6/16)
