Stone, George Harry

Born 1895. Married at Newcastle, on 4 Nov 1914. His wife, Alice Maud Mary Featham (Madge), lived at 17 Christopher Street, Hull (Army Address) and 21, Alicia Street, Hull (War Pension address). He worked as a Grocer’s Assistant. Described as 5 foot, 10 inches tall, grey eyes, dark brown hair, tattoo on right arm, very good character, a “steady, willing and reliable man, wounded on active service”.

He enlisted on 20/11/1911. Posted to France, with the British Expeditionary Force, on 17/4/1915 and 30/10/1916. He served in the East Yorkshire Regiment, Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding) Regiment. Discharged on 07/08/1917, after 5 years and 221 days service. Awarded the Silver war Badge (No: 227689). Died of Tuberculosis, at Hull in October 1918, aged 22.

His widow, Madge moved to 26, Alicia Street, Hull,
