BORN HULL 1888. SON OF JOHN JAMES SUDDABY (1860-1940) & ROSE CLARKE (1865-1953), OF 59 BRAZIL STREET, HULL. SON OF A BRICKLAYER. ONE OF NINE CHILDREN AND SEVEN SONS. A BRICKLAYER BY TRADE. HE SERVED HIS TIME WITH MR J WARD, HOLDERNESS ROAD. E
MIGRATED TO AMERICA IN 1908. LIVED AT 740 SPRING, NEW ALBANY, INDIANA, USA. ENLISTED AT LOUISVILLE, INDIANNA, IN MARCH 1917. SENT TO FRANCE, JULY 1918 AND FOUGHT FOR THE UNITED STATES, 18TH INFANTRY DIVISION. HE HAD ALREADY BEEN WOUNDED AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION, AT PICARDIE, ON THE 21ST JULY 1918. AGED 30.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 9TH OCTOBER 1918, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE LOUISVILLE, WAR MEMORIAL, KENTUCKY, USA.
ONE OF FIVE BROTHERS SERVING IN THE WAR. HIS BROTHER, BOMBARDIER, WALTER SUDDABY, ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, WAS KILLED FOUR WEEKS LATER, ON 22/08/1918. ANOTHER BROTHER, ALBERT, SERVING IN THE KINGS OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY, WAS REPORTED MISSING AND TAKEN PRISONER. ANOTHER BROTHER, JOHN SUDDABY, ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, WAS WOUNDED IN 1917 AND HIS YOUNGEST BROTHER, RICHARD SUDDABY, ROYAL AIR FORCE, JOINED SEVEN WEEKS BEFORE HIS DEATH.
