BORN WALTHAM, LINCS 1888. SON OF FRED SUDDABY (1850-1912) & LETTY SOPHIA BOND (1852-1925), OF 10, HARRIET’S TERRACE, EASTBOURNE STREET, HULL AND 46, GRANVILLE STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF A DOCK LABOURER. HE HAD SEVEN BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS, THREE UNCLES, 4 AUNTS, 26 NEPHEWS AND NIECES.
HE WAS A SINGLE MAN. WORKED AS AN IMPORTER’S CLERK AND SERVED 8 YEARS IN THE TERRITORIAL ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY.
HE ENLISTED AT GREAT YARMOUTH, ON 07/08/1916, AGED 27 YEARS AND 9 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 33.5 INCH CHEST, 115 LBS WEIGHT. PROMOTED TO BOMBARDIER, ON 28/08/1916. LEFT SOUTHAMPTON FOR LE HAVRE AND ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 31/03/1917. HE TRANSFERRED AS BOMBARDIER, TO THE 296TH SIEGE BATTERY.
HE IS BURIED AT THE SOMME, AT AUBIGNY BRITISH CEMETERY. HE LEFT £200 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER, LETTY.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, NEWINGTON, HULL.
HIS BROTHERS FRANK & SAMUEL, BOTH SERVED WITH THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AT THIS 1918 MILITARY VOTERS ADDRESS.
