SON OF HENRY TARBITTEN (1864-1943) & MARIA ARTHUR (1866-1924), OF 5 FRAN’S PLACE, OSBORNE STREET, HULL (1911); 83 EDGAR STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS) & 44, MODEL DWELLINGS, MIDLAND STREET, HULL (war pension address). SON OF A DOCK LABOURER. THIRD OF FOUR CHILDREN. HE HAD TWO OLDER BROTHERS AND A YOUNGER SISTER.

HE JOINED THE ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE, ON 21/04/1915 AND SERVED AS AN ORDINARY SEAMAN. HE DIED OF PNEUMONIA, AT HOME, 03/11/1917, AGED 18.
HIS ELDER BROTHER, ABLE SEAMAN, WILLIAM ARTHUR TARBITTEN, LIVED AT 7 CROMWELL TERRACE, CROMWELL STREET, HULL.
