George Edward Taylor 1893-1916

BORN HULL 17/05/1893. THIRD SON OF JOHN THOMAS (JACK) TAYLOR (1860-1928) AND ELLEN MARY ARCHER (1865-1930), OF 1, PALMERSTON VILLAS, DIVISION ROAD, HULL (1901 CENSUS), 64 MATTHEWS STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) & LATER HAWTHORNE, ANLABY, HULL. HE HAD EIGHT BROTHERS AND SEVEN SISTERS.

BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED AS A LERK, FOR RICHARDSON’S TIMBER MERCHANTS AT QUEENS DOCK, HULL.

HE SERVED IN HULL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 941, 5TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, AS A DISPATCH RIDER AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR. LATER TRANSFERRED TO THE 10TH WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT KILLED IN ACTION, ON 30/10/1916, AGED 23. COMMEMORATED ON THE THEIEPVAL MEMORIAL, FRANCE.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 22/12/1916 WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON ST MATTHEWS CHURCH ROLL OF HONOUR, BOULEVARD, HULL.
