BORN HULL 1899. SON OF ALBERT EDWARD TONG & MINNIE TONG, OF 19 VAUXHALL GROVE AND 4 PERSEVERENCE TERRACE, ST LUKES STREET, HULL 1918 (ABSENT VOTERS ADDRESS). HIS FATHER WAS FROM BARROW ON HUMBER AND AN ASSISTANT FOREMAN.
HE ENLISTED AT HULL UNDERAGE, IN SEPTEMBER 1914. SERVED WITH THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE PIONEERS. LEFT ENGLAND ON 14/07/1915, FOR THE DARDENELLES. HE WAS WOUNDED AND TAKEN PRISONER AT GALLIPOLI. DIED AT THALIS, TURKEY, OF TYPHOID FEVER, ON 10/05/1916, AGED 17. HIS ARMY AGE WAS 24. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 26/06/1918. *
UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ANNIE ELIZABETH EDWARDS. HE LEFT ELDER BROTHER, ERNEST AND SISTERS, AGNES AND PHYLLIS TONG.
HE IS BURIED IN BAGDAD, IRAQ. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “AT REST”.
