Khartoum, built by Cook, Welton & Gemmell, Hull in 1899 and owned at the time of her loss by Hull Steam Fishing & Ice Co. Ltd., Hull, was a British fishing vessel of 303 tons. KHARTOUM (H472) was used as a company carrier transporting “boxing fleet” catches of fish to London’s Billingsgate Fish Market.On March 26th, 1916, Khartoum fishing was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-5 (Ulrich Mohrbutter), 6 miles northeast of the Longstone lightvessel. 9 persons were lost.
