BORN HESSLE 17/11/1895. SON OF CHARLES SEATON TUNE & MARTHA ANNIE EVISON, OF “WESTLANDS”, HESSLE. EDUCATED AT HULL TECHNICAL COLLEGE. WAS ON THE OFFICE STAFF AT EX RECKITTS. HE RESIDED AT ANLABY PARK ROAD, HULL.
HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL COMMERCIALS ON 01/09/1914. SERVED IN EGYPT. POSTED TO FRANCE MARCH 1916. RETURNED TO ENGLAND IN SEPT. 1916 SUFFERING FROM ENTERIC FEVER. WAS GAZZETTED TO 2/LIEUT. IN THE 13TH EYR IN AUGUST 1917. WAS KILLED IN ACTION AT THE ATTACK ON BOUBON VILLAGE ON 23/11/1917. AN OFFICER WROTE; “HE WAS LEADING HIS PLATOON, CHEERING THEM ON IN A PARTICULARLY BRAVE AND GALLANT MANNER, WHEN HE WAS SHOT IN THE HEAD BY A MACHINE GUN BULLET OR SNIPER. WE ALL MOURN HIS LOSS VERY MUCH. THOUGH HE HAD ONLY BEEN WITH US A FEW WEEKS, HIS BRIGHT AND CHEERY DISPOSITION MADE HIM A GENERAL FAVOURITE, AND HE SHOWED PROMISE OF BEING A PARTICULAR EFFICENT AND CAPABLE OFFICER.”
CHARLES IS LISTED ON THE HULL TECHNICAL COLLEGE ROH WITH HIS YOUNGER BROTHER PTE HARRY TUNE, RAMC, WHO DIED ON 07/09/1918. BOTH BROTHERS ARE RECORDED ON THE HESSLE ROLL OF HONOUR, ALL SAINTS PARISH CHURCH.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 07/12/1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.
