BORN GOOLE. YOUNGEST SON OF THOMAS COATES & BETSEY TURTON, GOOLE. BROTHER DR. EDWARD TURTON ABOVE, ADDRESS WHO WAS A MAJOR IN THE RAMC. FORMERLY EMPLOYED BY THE LONDON AND JOINT STOCK BANK, GOOLE. HE LEFT FOR NEW ZEALAND TO BECOME A FARMER. HE ENLISTED AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR AND WAS ONE OF THE FIRST OVERSEA CONTINGENTS TO RETURN TO ENGLAND. AFTER TRAINING IN CAIRO, HE PROCEEDED TO THE DARDENELLES. HE SERVED IN THE FRONT LINE TRENCHES FOR SIX MONTHS BEFORE BEING SEVERELY WOUNDED ON THE 8TH AUGUST 1915. LATER DIED OF WOUNDS IN MALTA. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH APPEAR IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 6TH SEPTEMBER 1915. *
