Wales, Bertram William

Born York, 1886. Son of John Hodgson Wales and Sarah Ann Wales, of Bishop Burton, Beverley. He was a Joiner boarding at 17 Main Avenue, Heworth, York (1911 Census).

Enlisted Birmingham. Served as Lance Corporal, 14th Warwickshire Regiment. Killed in action, on 23 Jul 1916, aged 30.

Commemorated on the Theipval Memorial, France. He left £235 to his father John Hodgson Wales, a retired school master.

He is commemorated on the family grave at St. Nicholas’ Churchyard, Beverley – IN/ LOVING MEMORY OF/ SARAH ANNIE/ BELOVED WIFE OF J ABBEY/ WHO FELL ASLEEP/ DECEMBER 28TH 1903/ AGED 26 YEARS/ ALSO/ BERTRAM WILLIAM WALES/ BROTHER OF THE ABOVE/ WHO FELL IN ACTION ON THE SOMME/ JULY 22ND 1916/ AGED 30 YEARS
