Walker, Henry (Harry)

BORN HULL 1896. SON OF JOSEPH & ADA WALKER, OF 25 BARMSTON STREET, HULL. HE WAS A TELEGRAM MESSENGER AT CUMBERLAND STREET AND BEVERLEY ROAD POST OFFICES FOR TWO YEARS. HE THEN WORKED AT MESSRS. STORRY & WITTY’S, PAINT & COLOUR MANUFACTURERS, WILCOLMLEE. HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 10/02/1916. SERVING WITH THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION ONE YEAR LATER, ON 16/02/1917, AGED 21. HE IS BURIED AT THE SOMME. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “TILL WE MEET AGAIN”. HIS ARMY EFFECTS, WERE LEFT TO HIS GRANDMOTHER, HANNAH.
HIS NAME WAS RECORDED ON THE LORNE STREET SHRINE. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 10TH MARCH 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
