BORN BARTON ON HUMBER 1894. SON OF WALLIS & KATE WALKER, OF 6 LEE STREET, HULL. BEFORE THE WAR HE WAS EMPLOYED BY MESSRS. BLEASDALE AND BARRACLOUGH, HULL, AS SHIP’S MATE OF A KEEL. HE WAS WELL KNOWN IN BARTON ON HUMBER. HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS. JOINING THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE (HULL SPORTSMEN) BATTALION. HE SERVED IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, AT SERRE, ON 13/11/1916, AGED 20. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 15TH AUGUST 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. * HE IS BURIED AT QUEENS CEMETERY, PUISIEUX. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “GOD HAS SAVED FROM WEARY STRIFE IN ITS DAWN THIS YOUNG FRESH LIFE”.
