BORN HULL 1893. ONLY SON OF JAMES ROBERT WALSHAM (1865-1930) & HARRIET ANN WALSHAM (1866-1903), OF 11, WELTON TERRACE, WASSAND STREET, HULL & 3, RICHARDS PLACE, FRANCIS STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). HE HAD THREE SISTERS, CHARLOTTE, FRANCES AND EMMA. HIS FATHER REMARRIED WHEN HIS MOTHER DIED IN 1903 AND MOVED TO 39, KENT STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS)
HE LIVED WITH HIS AUNT, MRS MARY ANN PARKIN, AT 43, SCOTT STREET, HULL, WHOSE THREE SONS, ROBERT, JAMES & SAM PARKIN ALL SERVED WITH THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENTS. THEY ARE PICTURED WITH JOSEPH WALSHAM IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 09/09/1915.
PRIOR TO WAR JOSEPH WALSHAM WORKED AT BRITANIA MILLS FOR THE BRITISH OIL & CAKE MILL. JOE SERVED WITH THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. LANDED IN FRANCE IN OCTOBER 1914. HE DIED AT THE BOULOGNE GENERAL HOSPITAL, OF GUNSHOT WOUNDS TO THE HEAD, RECEIVED ON THE 8TH AUGUST 1915, AGED 21.
HE IS LISTED ON THE NEW GEORGE STREET ROLL OF HONOUR – (HULL DAILY MAIL, 03/11/1917). HIS WAR PENSION WENT TO HIS AUNT, MARY ANN PARKIN.
HIS PHOTOGRAPH APPEARED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 9TH SEPTEMBER 1915, AND THE HULL TIMES, ON THE 11TH SEPTEMBER 1915. *
HIS FATHER, PRIVATE, JAMES ROBERT WALSHAM, 29124, ROYAL DEFENCE CORPS, ENLISTED ON 5TH AUGUST 1914. WAS DISCHARGED WITH MYALGIA, ON 15TH AUGUST 1918 AND AWARDED THE SILVER WAR BADGE (NO:B6136).
