Born Hull 7 March 1887. Son of George Ward (1858-1931) and Melinda Ann Willoughby (1859-1934), of 142 Glasgow Street, Hull (1911 Census), and 35, St Georges Road, Hull. Son of a railway Loader. He had seven brothers and two sisters.

Issued with his Master’s Sea Certificate on 18 May 1908. Served as a Lieutenant, in the Royal Navy, HMS Victory. Died at Hull, on 27/11/1920, aged 33.
He left £40 in his will to his widow.
His brother, Acting Leading Seaman, John Thomas Ward, K.960 (Po), HMS Europa, died on 21 Sep 1914, aged 23.
His brother, Deck Hand, George Ernest Ward, 5869 D.A, was lost of the HMT “King Emperor”, on 4 Feb 1916, aged 33. His Wife Martha lived at 169 Somerset Street, Hull.
