BORN HULL 1893. ONLY SON OF PHILIP HENRY WARD (1855-1927) & MARGARET ELIZABETH WARD, OF 87, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 228, PARK GROVE, HULL. HE HAD AN OLDER SISTER EDITH. HE WAS EDUCATED AT HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL. LIKE HIS FATHER, HE WORKED AS A HOUSE DECORATOR AND PAINTER. WENT TO ST JOHN’S HALL, DURHAM UNIVERSITY AND TRAINED TO BE A VICAR.
HE ENLISTED AT DURHAM. SERVED WITH THE 9TH WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ONÂ 24/09/1917, AGED 24. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL Panel 42 to 47 and 162.
HE IS ALSO LISTED ON HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL MEMORIAL AND THE CLIFTON STREET SCHOOL ROLL OF HONOUR, HULL, WHERE HE SHOWED GREAT PROMISE.
