Watson, John Richard

Born 1891. Son of Stephen Watson (1858-1931) and Margaret Ann Ellis (1862-1935), of “The Haven,” Patrington, Hull (CWGC Address). Son of a farmer. He worked as a horseman. He had one brother and two sisters.

Served in Coldstream Guards, No. 4 Coy. 1st Bn. He died of wounds, on 22/07/1917, aged 26, at No:4 Casualty Clearing Stataion. Buried Belgium. his army effects were left jointly to both parents.

His brother Arthur Gladstone Watson died on the 18/09/1915, aged 21. The family grave – September 1915 • St Patrick’s Churchyard, Patrington, East Riding of Yorkshire, England, reads In affectionate remembrance of ARTHUR GLADSTONE, the beloved son of STEPHEN and MARGARET WATSON of Patrington Haven who passed away Sept 18 1915 aged 21 years At rest Also our dear son Private JOHN RICHARD 1st Batt, Coldstream Guards, died of wounds.”
