BORN HULL 1885. SON OF DAVID & MARY WELBON (1849-1921), OF 57, WATERLOO STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS & WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON A TAILOR. HIS MOTHER WAS A CONFECTIONER. HE WORKED AS A RULLYMAN. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS.

SERVED WITH THE 1/5TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 23/09/1916, AGED 31. COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, SOMME, FRANCE.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, DAVID.

HIS NAME IS LISTED AS J WELBON ON HULL’S CLIFTON STREET SCHOOL ROLL OF HONOUR.

HIS ELDER BROTHER, LAMCE CORPORAL, JOHN PACEY WELBON, SERVED WITH THE 23RD NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, GILBERT SERVED WITH THE EYR AND MACHINE GUN CORPS.
