HE MARRIED AT HARTLEPOOL, IN 1902. HUSBAND OF MARY MARGARET WELDRAKE, OF 15 BOWSER STREET, WEST HARTLEPOOL, DURHAM. THEY HAD TWO DAUGHTERS AND TWO SONS. EMPLOYED AS A GENERAL LABOURER AND DOCK WORKER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 5.5 INCHES TALL, 136 LBS WEIGHT, 35-37 INCH CHEST, BROWN EYES, DARK BROWN HAIR.
HE ENLISTED IN WEST HARTLEPOOL, ON 25/08/1914. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 21/05/1915. SERVED WITH THE 14TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. WOUNDED IN THE BACK, AT YPRES, ON 31/07/1915. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 22/04/1917, AGED 38. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 2 YEARS AND 241 DAYS. COMMEMORATED ON THE LOOS MEMORIAL.
HIS BROTHER, GEORGE WELDRAKE, (MM), WAS A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER THAT HAD SERVED DURING THE BOER WAR AND ALSO SERVED IN THE 13TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. HE LIVED AT 6 CLARENDON TERRACE, OFF SPRING BANK, HULL.
