Walter Leonard Welton, 16th NFus., killed 02/12/1917, aged 26. He lived at 163 Woodcock Street, Hull.

BORN HULL 1891. SON OF JOHN WELTON (1857-1941) & ALICE BLANCHARD, OF, 163, WOODCOCK STREET (1911 CENSUS & WAR PENSION ADDRESS). ONE OF TEN CHILDREN. HE WAS SON OF A RAILWAY ENGINE DRIVER. EMPLOYED AS A ‘CORN MAN’ AND FARM WORKER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 2ND DECEMBER 1917, AGED 26. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, JOHN.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE ‘ST JOHN THE BAPTIST’ CHURCH, ROLL OF HONOUR, NEWINGTON, HULL. H

IS NAME WAS RECORDED INCORRECTLY AS ‘WILTON’ ON THE TYNE COT CEMETERY, BELGIUM. THIS HAS NOW BEEN CORRECTED BY THE CWGC THANKS TO HIS FAMILY.
