BORN DUNDEE, SCOTLAND 1856. HE JOINED THE MERCHANT NAVY, ON 27/08/1875 AS AN APPRENTICE. RECEIVED HIS MASTER’S CERTIFICATE, ON 17/11/1888. WAS CAPTAIN OF THE CARGO SHIP “NIMROD”. DIED OF SICKNESS, ON 18/12/1917, AGED 62. BURIED AT LES BARAQUES MILITARY CEMETERY, SANGATTE, FRANCE. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON HULL’S TRINITY HOUSE MEMORIAL.
HE MARRIED FANNY MARIA LONG AT ST JAMES CHURCH, HULL, ON 05/11/1876, AGED 21. THEY LIVED AT 78 ENLISH STREET, HULL AND HAD THREE SONS AND TWO DAUGHTERS.
HIS TWO SONS, GEORGE AND LEONARD, JOINED THE ARMY & BOTH WERE KILLED. HIS OTHER SON, STANLEY, SERVED IN THE ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE AND LIVED AT 2, HALL STREET, SPRING BANK, HULL.
