BORN HULL 1894. SON OF FREDERICK & MARY A WEST, OF 25, STANLEY STREET, HULL AND 71 NEWLAND AVENUE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED FOR HIS FATHER’S UNDERTAKER BUSINESS.
HE ENLISTED AT HULL, IN THE 10TH EYR, ON 02/09/1914, AGED 26. HE JOINED THE HULL COMMERCIALS AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR AND SERVED WITH THE 10TH EAST YORKSHIRES IN EGYPT AND FRANCE.
HE WAS WOUNDED BY A SHELL FRAGMENT IN THE SHOULDER, ON 08/06/1916 AND WAS INVALIDED TO THE WESTERN GENERAL HOSPITAL, CARDIFF.
HE RETURNED TO FRANCE AND WAS POSTED TO THE 4TH EAST YORKSHIRES, ON 19/09/1917. WOUNDED AGAIN BY A BULLET IN HIS LEFT LEG, ON 16/03/1918 AND RETURNED TO THE SOUTHERN GENERAL HOSPITAL, ENGLAND.
HE RETURNED AGAIN TO FRANCE, JOINING THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRES, ON 23/08/1918. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 10/10/1918, AGED 24, JUST 32 DAYS BEFORE THE WAR ENDED. HE IS BURIED AT Neuvilly Communal Cemetery Extension, FRANCE, WITH 96 OTHER MEN.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 3RD DECEMBER 1918, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
